Fan Fryske Grûn Tartan
In 2024 the initiative was taken to have a tartan designed to "represent" Fryslân. This tartan was to be registered as the a District tartan and for that the cooperation was sought with the Provinsje Fryslân to recognise the design formally and allow the Tartan "Fan Fryske Grûn" to be registered as a formal District Tartan in the official Scottish Register of Tartans.

The design was inspired by the characteristics of the Frisian landscape. There for the colour blue is intended to represent the waters, the lakes and the sea; green is for the green meadows; grey is for the wetlands (Wadden) and the farmlands in the north-east and the narrow black lines are intended to represent the roads and paths cutting through the landscape. These colours were combined with the colours of the Frisian flag including red which represents ‘It Frysk Bloed’, the anthem of the area, and yellow to refer to Leeuwarden, the capital of the province of Fryslân.
